After the loss to Tigres due to a controversial penalty kick, Andres Lillini, the Universitarios' coach, made a strong statement about Pumas UNAM's result today in Liga MX 2022.

The Argentinean tactician was firm in his words about the result of the match and, above all, about what happened with the controversial penalty kick that was taken by André Pierre-Gignac, which ended the Universitarios' undefeated record in Liga MX 2022, with a score of 2-1.

Lillini's blunt statements on today's Pumas UNAM result

The coach of the Auriazul team spoke about what happened in the match and was blunt in saying that referees always argue in the face of any controversial play that "they always whistle well".

After the match, the coach was questioned by the media about the game, but especially about the controversial penalty, to which he responded:

"Here in front of the microphone, justice I cannot do. I do not believe that there is something biased against us. Above me, there are people in the club who are in charge of that. If I say it, I don't take it out cheaply. I cannot talk about Atlas, Querétaro, and now, and then on Wednesday they come out and say it was correct. It has to be decided by other people, not me".

A debut in Liga MX, the reason for the controversial penalty kick

The foul that led to the penalty occurred at minute 90+2 of added time in a play in which Tigres was attacking towards Alfredo Talavera's goal.

The ball landed at the feet of Gignac and it was then that Juan José Miguel, who had his first minutes in Liga MX with the substitution of Lillini for Leonel López, made his league debut in an unfortunate way.

When the Pumas UNAM player saw that Gignac had the ball at his feet, he swept forward without much strength to try to take the ball away from the Frenchman in a controversial play and a dubious foul that had to be verified with the VAR by referee Óscar Mejía, who, upon reviewing the action, decreed the penalty in favor of Tigres

Gignac scored the goal and, with this goal, the Auriazules lost their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Due to how the play took place and was recorded by the referee, Lillini was noticeably upset at the end of the match

Andres Lillini also spoke about the physical condition of the team in the Pumas UNAM result today

Lillini was not afraid of self-criticism and pointed out that if the Universitarios lacked anything, it was the physical endurance to tackle the last 20 minutes of the second half.

The coach said on the subject: "We have to improve our physical level, we will play against Pumas Tabasco on this FIFA Date to analyze the players. The team got tired in the last 20 minutes due to the wear and tear of the first 70 minutes

The coach is referring to the pause in many soccer leagues worldwide due to the World Cup Qualifiers in which the Mexican national team must secure its ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
