Liga MX: Will Monterrey part ways with Victor Manuel Vucetich after the elimination in Repechaje?

During the first three games that Vucetich coach in his second stint, Vucetich managed to remain unbeaten, but lost against Tigres on the Clásico Regio. Since then, the results that Monterrey gathered were irregular and weren’t enough for them to earn a direct ticket to Liguilla.

Rayados finished the regular season with 26 points, tied with Chivas, Club Puebla and Club América, although the goal difference is what made them fell to the seventh spot, forcing them to play Repechaje against Atlético San Luis.

Although Monterrey started winning the game, they weren’t able to keep the advantage and the game was decided on a penalty shootout where Marcelo Barovero became the hero for San Luis and Vincent Janssen, Maxi Meza and Rodolfo Pizarro the villains for Monterrey.

Pizarro couldn’t adapt to Liga MX again

Since Rodolfo Pizarro left Liga MX in 2020 to join MLS side Inter Miami CF, his level has significantly dropped, as he couldn’t become an essential player for the Herons even if he was signed as one of the biggest names to join David Beckham’s franchise.

He even lost his starting role in Inter Miami and was erased from the Mexican national team, which is why he decided to return to Mexico, as he knew that in the World Cup year, it was his best option to regain his level and return to El Tri’s roster.

But he couldn’t adapt to Monterrey’s system, as he only played in 10 games, but the failed penalty kick was the straw that broke the camel’s back, which now that Rayados’s participation is over, they are looking for his replacement in Europe.

Who will be his replacement?

Reports suggest that Monterrey is negotiating with La Liga side Celta de Vigo to acquire Orbelín Pineda, as the Mexican winger has played only in six games, all of them as a substitute, but given that he is under contract with Los Célticos until 2027, he’d only leave on a loan.
