Andrés Lillini may not continue as coach of Pumas UNAM after the loss to Chivas in the playoffs. Not only are the Auriazules now out of contention for the Clausura 2022 title, but in midweek they lost in the Concachampions final against Seattle Sounders, a situation that left Pumas empty-handed this semester.

The Argentinean coach even left his future with the Universitarios in doubt and emphasized that it will be the Pumas board of directors that will determine his continuity.

A tough week for Andres Lillini

"It's difficult to assimilate two such heavy defeats and internally it remains that we did our best, some in a better way, others in a different way, but the team did not stop pushing, we have these resources, everyone has participated and surely for the next process they will have this path and it will be good for the club," said Lillini.

Regarding the absence of Diogo de Oliveira due to injury, the Pumas coach pointed out that he cannot be dependent on one player, and therefore took responsibility for the 4-1 elimination against Chivas, a defeat for which he feels ashamed.

"We can't depend on whether a player gets injured. It is hard for me to look for excuses. I believe that what we had been doing didn't work, there are factors that affected us, but we were left out of the playoffs, that's why I feel ashamed of my own sportsmanship. I am the only one responsible and the decisions will come", he added.

Lillini has not done a bad job with Pumas

Despite the two defeats, Lillini has taken this team forward despite losing key players such as Erik Lira during his tenure, and there have been few new additions to the club, working mainly with players from the youth team.

The coach has not been able to win a title but has been close to doing so, as was the case in the Apertura 2020, where he reached the final but lost to León. Last season they reached the semifinals and lost against Atlas, and this semester they lost the Concachampions final against Seattle Sounders. The Argentine has done a lot with little.
