With only four games left on the season in Premier League, teams are already planning what will be the 2022-23 season, especially if they weren’t able of achieving all the goals that were set for the current season at the start of the soccer year.

Manchester City is one of those teams, and even if they are leading Premier League just by one point over Liverpool FC, the elimination of the Champions League in the semifinals against Real Madrid marked a new failure for Pep Guardiola and the Citizens.

That’s why Guardiola is already looking for ways to strengthen the team, as they will, once again, pursue the Champions League next season, something that they only be able to achieve improving certain positions on the current roster.

One of the positions that Guardiola is looking to improve is the midfield, especially if Bernardo Silva ends up leaving for FC Barcelona, as rumors are placing him in La Liga. If this ends up happening, the Citizens will pursue the addition of one player that, indirectly will benefit Club América.

Who is the player that Manchester City wants?

Reports from The Guardian suggest that Guardiola is interested in acquiring Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who will become a free agent at the end of the season and doesn’t have plans for renewing with the Red Devils.

For the United, they will need to look for a new midfielder, as Pogba is not an option, and thanks to Erik ten Hag, who will assume the coaching role once the current season is over, they won’t have to look much for his replacement.

Edson Álvarez will become Pogba’s successor at Manchester United, as ten Hag knows him from Eredivisie side AFC Ajax, and given that he’s become one of the best players of the Godenzonen, the coach will request having him in the Premier League too.

Club América will also be benefited

The arrival of Edson Álvarez to Manchester United will also benefit Club América given that they still own 15% of the economic rights of “El Machín”, according to Milenio. Las Águilas will receive a compensation of $6 million if Álvarez plays in the Premier League next season.
