Cruz Azul is slowly staying behind in Liga MX, as they have won just one of their last five games, including a 3-1 defeat against Club Puebla, team that is Liga MX leader and that Juan Reynoso hasn’t been able to beat since he left La Franja.

The first addition for Cruz Azul if Hugo Sánchez arrives in La Máquina

They managed to beat Montréal CF on the first leg of the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, but they still have to visit Canada in order to secure their ticket to the semifinals, although they seem to be the only Mexican team that will have the chance, given that Pumas and Club León both lost by a 3-0 score.

But even with how much is at stake for La Máquina in the present season, Juan Reynoso hasn’t given Santiago Giménez enough opportunities to prove why he’s one of the most promising Mexican players, not even after he scored a brace to give Cruz Azul the victory against Toluca.

Giménez also was the artificer of the play that gave Los Cementeros the draw against Tigres, but for Reynoso it hasn’t been enough, and even if he gave him a starting role in the last couple of games, he’s showed that doesn’t fully trust the young striker.

What will happen to Giménez?

The 20-year-old is under contract with La Máquina for another year, although he doesn’t see with bad eyes leaving Cruz Azul for more playing time and a coach that trusts he has the talent to be the starter forward for their team.

It’s true that his dream is moving to Europe but given the situation he currently is and the fact that he needs to be on the best shape of his life the next season if he wants to be considered by Gerardo “Tata” Martino to be part of Mexico National Team’s roster that will play in Qatar 2022.

That’s why he could consider moving to another Liga MX team and given that his father Christian “Chaco” Giménez will arrive in Mazatlán FC as assistant coach of Gabriel Caballero, “Chaquito” could be on the move for Apertura 2021.

“Chaquito” Giménez current market value

If Los Cañoneros want to acquire the young striker from Cruz Azul, they will have to pay $4.4 million for his economic rights, although they could also negotiate a loan, as “Chaco” Giménez is still on good terms with Cruz Azul’s management.
