The poor results that Michel Leaño has had with Chivas could have already costed him his job if it wasn’t for the four points he managed to save in the last two games and his good friendship with Chivas owner, Amaury Vergara.

But all that won’t be enough to keep him in Chivas’ bench if they don’t manage to beat Club América on the Clásico Nacional this weekend, as not only they will receive Las Águilas in Estadio Akron, but also because is the worst version of América in a long time.

Vergara is confident that Chivas will win the game, but if they don’t manage to defeat a Club América that is standing last and has earned just six points in nine rounds, Michel Leaño will have to leave El Rebaño, and in Chivas they already have the perfect replacement for him.

Who will replace Michel Leaño?

Reports suggest that former Chivas left-winger Ramón Morales is the chosen one to replace Marcelo Michel Leaño when he leaves El Rebaño, given the history he has with the club and the connection he’ll instantly create with Chivas followers.

“Ramoncito” Morales played a decade with Chivas, from 1999 to 2009, and he helped El Rebaño to win the Apertura 2006 title, and he also was part of the team that beat 4-0 Boca Juniors in 2005, in one of the best participations the had in Copa Libertadores.

Ramón Morales’ numbers as a professional

Morales debuted in with CF La Piedad in the 1994-95 season, but after just one year he was acquired by CF Monterrey, where he played three years before arriving in Chivas in 1999, where he is mostly remembered as a professional player. After leaving El Rebaño in 2009, he played another season with Estudiantes Tecos until he retired in 2010.

As a coach, Morales debuted in 2012 with Deportivo Oro, from Mexico’s third division. After a year he returned to Chivas, where he had multiple roles as coach of the academy teams, given that he coached the U-17 and U-20 before leaving in 2016 to coach Coras Tepic, from Liga de Expansión.
