Although Cruz Azul is considered one of the contenders for Clausura 2022, given that they exactly knew how to strengthen their roster and have been consistent throughout seven rounds, things inside La Máquina aren’t working that well.

Juan Reynoso wasn’t happy with the performance of Cruz Azul and called out the responsible

The 2-1 defeat against Santos Laguna has little to do with the problems within Cruz Azul, as the team owned the possession of the ball for most of the game and had multiple dangerous plays, although they couldn’t beat Carlos Acevedo.

But changes will still be coming in La Máquina structure, something that already started with the departure of Álvaro Dávila and the return of Jaime Ordiales, a movement that wasn’t applauded by Juan Reynoso and Cruz Azul roster.

Ordiales is known for not liking the coaching system that Reynoso has implemented in Cruz Azul, as he thinks it’s too defensive for a team with the history that La Máquina has, something that Reynoso has tried to change in the last two matches, as he’s placed an offensive block not usual in his style.

But other of the decisions that could affect the roster and mean a major change after Clausura 2022 is over, is the departure of Misael Corona, José de Jesús Corona’s son, given the lack of opportunities he was having.

Could his departure mean the end of Corona’s stint in Cruz Azul?

Corona isn’t happy with the departure of his son and is considering leaving La Máquina at the end of the season. “Chuy” Corona still has one more year left on his contract but even at 41, he’s still one of the goalkeepers with better stats in Liga MX.

Corona still has a couple of more years as a player until retirement comes, but he could take advantage of those seasons in another team. Chivas could be the team that opens the door to him, as he already had a short stint with El Rebaño.

Corona’s professional career before Cruz Azul

Prior his arrival in Cruz Azul, in 2009, “Chuy” Corona was born and raised in Guadalajara, where he was part of Estudiantes Tecos, Atlas and Chivas, the three teams that used to play in Liga MX before Tecos went extinct. Chivas could be looking to add him given their need of a reliable goalkeeper, and Corona doesn’t see with bad eyes his return to Guadalajara, as all his family resides there.
