If Hugo Sánchez becomes Cruz Azul’s next coach, this player will have to leave La Máquina

The irregularities that Cruz Azul showed during Clausura 2022 came back to haunt them in the quarterfinals, as they were just one goal away from making it into the semifinals, but the lack of aim prevented them from achieving their goal.

La Máquina couldn’t win any of the two tournaments that they were disputing during the first semester of the year, as they also were eliminated by Pumas in the semifinals of CONCACAF Champions League, something that most likely will cost Juan Reynoso his job at Cruz Azul for Apertura 2022.

One of the strongest candidates to arrive at La Máquina to replace Reynoso is Hugo Sánchez, who also turns out to be the favorite candidate of Jaime Ordiales, Cruz Azul’s sporting director, and who was close to become Los Cementeros’ coach before Reynoso took over the team 18 months ago.

“Hugol” himself revealed this information during his new talk show, as he already had agreed to arrive at Cruz Azul, but Álvaro Dávila stopped the negotiations and decided to sign Juan Reynoso. Now that Dávila is no longer in Cruz Azul, Sánchez is willing to resume the negotiations and replace Reynoso.

A player will have to leave if he arrives

Although one of the things that will change with the arrival of Hugo Sánchez at Cruz Azul’s dugout is the current roster, especially since there’s an enmity between two of the players that have been part of La Máquina for the longest time.

According to reports, in Cruz Azul’s locker room exists a quarrel between José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona and Julio César “Cata” Domínguez, something that has been more evident since their wives usually send indirect messages to one another.

Whoever is the coach that replaces Reynoso will have to deal with the problem as soon as he arrives at Cruz Azul, but if Sánchez is that person, “Chuy” Corona will have the upper hand, as he has a good relationship with “Hugol”, meaning that “El Cata” will have to look for a new team after playing his entire career for La Máquina.

What’s stopping Sánchez from signing with Cruz Azul?

Hugo Sánchez has requested three things to arrive at Cruz Azul. The first one is to have freedom to acquire the players that he thinks La Máquina needs. The second one is to be able to finish his contract, respecting his process, and finally being involved in the formation of the academy players.
