After starting the season with only one defeat in the first six games of Clausura 2022, Cruz Azul finished the regular season winning only one of the last 10 games that they disputed, something that costed them the direct access to Liguilla and getting eliminated from CONCACAF Champions League.

La Máquina were eliminated in the semifinals of CCL by Pumas and then, after defeating Club Necaxa in Repechaje, they weren’t able to score one more goal in the series of quarterfinals against Tigres that would have meant their ticket to semifinals.

Now that their season is over, it is uncertain if Juan Reynoso will be able to fulfill his obligations with Cruz Azul, as he’s under contract until December, of if La Máquina will decide to part ways with him, given that the irregular results that they achieved have raised many questions.

The next couple of weeks will be determinant to his future and the future of Cruz Azul’s dugout, as Jaime Ordiales already has a replacement in mind if La Máquina ends up dismissing the Peruvian coach before Apertura 2022 starts.

Who is the coach that can replace Reynoso?

One of the things that Jaime Ordiales and Cruz Azul’s board are looking for is to change the profile of the coach that can replace Reynoso, as they are looking for someone that can boost the emotional side of the players, something that is becoming a trend in Liga MX with coaches like Fernando Ortíz or Nicolás Larcamón.

According to reports from W Deportes Radio, the candidate that has taken the lead to replace Juan Reynoso is someone that La Máquina followers can identify with, but at the same time, knows what it means to wear Cruz Azul colors in the last decade.

That’s why Christian “Chaco” Giménez is Ordiales’s plan B in case they decide to part ways with Reynoso, as “Chaco” knows well the institution and has experience coaching in Mexico, although not as the head coach, given that he currently is the assistant coach at Mazatlán FC.

How much will Cruz Azul have to pay for his arrival?

Reports suggest that even if Giménez is under contract with Mazatlán FC, he doesn’t have a release clause, which opens the door for La Máquina to negotiate directly with him, as they only have to agree in a salary that is attractive enough for him.
