Now that Mexico National Team is getting ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it seems like Gerardo “Tata” Martino has finally understood that El Tri needs a roster with only the players that are having the best performances in the past year and not his favorite ones.

Gareth Bale can arrive to Tigres and they are already thinking of replacing André-Pierre Gignac

That’s something that he’s just recently doing, as he’s decided to call Liga MX players that have become key for their respective teams, like Israel Reyes from Club Puebla, Kevin Álvarez from CF Pachuca, Fernando Beltrán from Chivas, and Carlos Acevedo from Santos Laguna.

Acevedo has become one of the four goalkeepers considered by Martino, place that he’s earned after his call-up for the last CONCACAF Qualifiers games that El Tri played, as the performances that he’s had with Santos Laguna have been outstanding and consistent for at least three seasons now.

He can make the jump to Europe over the summer

One of the things that Acevedo earned once he joined the Aztec squad was a bigger showcase than Santos Laguna is, as on the first training he had with El Tri in the past FIFA match window, he caught the eye from PSV Eindhoven scouts that were following Alexis Vega.

And although his future doesn’t seem to be in Eredivisie, reports from Italian sports news outlets have linked the 25-year-old goalkeeper to Serie A side Napoli, as the Azzurri are looking to add a new goalkeeper as they haven’t been able to renew David Ospina.

The Colombian goalkeeper is in the last month of contract and given that negotiations have stalled, Napoli is exploring different options, with Acevedo being one of them. Hirving “Chucky” Lozano could serve as a negotiator to convince him to join the Azzurri, although if they want to sign him, they will have to pay $5 million.
