He’s a defender, his rights belong to Chivas but they don’t want him in the squad
He played last season on a loan with Portland Timbers.
After playing last year in the 2021 MLS Season with Portland Timbers, where he was a regular on Giovanni Savarese’s squad, playing 33 games during the regular season, 27 of them on the starting XI, and even reaching the Final, where Timbers ultimately lost against NYCFC.
But for the 2022 season, Portland decided to not renew his loan, hence why he had to leave the MLS and return to the team that owns his economic rights, Chivas, although El Rebaño Sagrado and Marcelo Michel Leaño haven’t considered him as part of the squad.
Now, Josecarlos van Rankin, who could definitely be of aid to a Chivas team that desperately needs help both on defense and offense, is still looking for a team to join on the next few days, as the 28-year-old still has a lot of years ahead of him as a professional player, but first he needs Chivas to give him the chance of leaving.
What could happen with van Rankin?
The Mexican right-back is under contract with Chivas until 2023, after the 2022/2023 season is over, but if he wants to have playing time, leaving Chivas might be the right choice, even if it’s on a loan, as he did with his former team.
