Before assuming Chivas senior squad coach role, Marcelo Michel Leaño was coaching the Academy teams of El Rebaño Sagrado, hence why he always defends them and speaks highly of the future Chivas players. He even has called some of them to join the first team trainings.

But on today’s game against Mazatlán U-20, his former players decided to prove him wrong, as the failed three penalty kicks in less than 20 minutes, making Mazatlán goalkeeper Leonardo Palestina the Man of the Match.

Gael García failed the first penalty kick not even 10 minutes into the game, but the goalkeeper stopped his shoot. Benjamín Sánchez was the second Chivas to miss his shot. In the immediate play after the missed penalty, another foul was called by the referee, giving Chivas his third chance, same that Leonardo Sánchez couldn’t score.

What’s in store for Chivas in Clausura 2022?

After not adding new players other than Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado, Chivas will have a hard time as they are still missing a striker that helps them with the lack of goals they showed last season. They might have to play some of the young players, but after today’s exhibition, Marcelo Michel Leaño might have to think twice before doing it.
