Despite the fact that his 35 years are bringing him closer and closer to retirement, the player himself felt he had the strength to continue at the highest level for one more season. That was his argument to try to convince Cruz Azul's board of directors to keep him at the club for two more semesters; however, the offices did not approve the renewal and let him leave.

Cruz Azul has established a new policy of rejuvenating the roster, in which young players will have more room and those over 32 years of age will see their chances of continuing are limited.

Who is next?

With this new mandate from the top, Jesús Corona, Joaquín Martínez, Julio Domínguez, and Rafael Baca could follow in the footsteps of the Guaraní and put an end to their time as Cementeros. However, the 'Shaggy' would have won Diego Aguirre's approval and would renew his contract, which expires on June 30, for one more year.
