Now that Mexico National Team ensured the World Cup bound after the 2-0 victory over El Salvador on the last game of the FIFA match window, most of the players that weren’t considered by Gerardo “Tata” Martino for the CONCACAF Qualifiers will try to impress him to earn a spot in El Tri’s roster.

Rafael Márquez took a decision about coaching Club América

This desire of wanting to be considered by Martino for the final roster of the Mexican squad could be beneficial for the teams, as they will serve as the perfect showcase for the players that don’t want to miss the opportunity of playing in a World Cup.

That’s the case of Haret Ortega, who already received a call-up to play with El Tri’s senior squad, as he was part of a friendly game against Ecuador, where he played the full game as a center back, and even if he left good impressions in Martino’s coaching staff, he wasn’t considered for any other games.

That hasn’t stopped him from performing the best he can, and for Clausura 2022, he’s played 8 games for CD Toluca, all of them as a starter, although one of the games he missed was against his former team, Club América, who are considering having him back for the next season.

His best chance of arriving in El Tri

According to reports from W Deportes, Las Águilas want to strengthen their squad for the next season, as they’ve disappointed with the performances in Clausura 2022, where they haven’t been able to win more than two games.

That’s why they’re considering negotiating with Toluca for the 21-year-old center back, who left Club América for the 2020-21 season and joined Los Diablos as a free agent once his contract with Las Águilas was over, given the few opportunities he had with the senior squad back then.

Ortega doesn’t see with bad eyes returning to Club América, as he knows it will be a bigger challenge for him but a better showcase if he wants to finally be considered by Martino, as he could do a better job than Héctor Moreno.

How much will América have to pay for him?

In Las Águilas, he will have to compete against Bruno Valdez, who even if he’s the top scorer of the Azulcremas for the season, he’s been irregular on his defensive duties. If América were to sign Haret Ortega, they will have to pay $2.5 million, less than half of Valdez’s market value.
