During the last month, Club América has been one of the best teams in Liga MX, as they’ve earned 10 points of the 15 available, improving their position in Clausura 2022 and the possibilities of playing Liguilla, as they need two more victories to ensure their participation.

Since Fernando “Tano” Ortíz took over, Las Águilas have scored eight goals and received only two, both were scored by Monterrey on the first game he coached. They’ve also won two games by a 3-0 score and Guillermo Ochoa has kept four straight clean sheets.

Before “Tano” Ortíz arrived, the season looked lost for Club América, as they were standing last with only six points after eight rounds, but now they know they can compete against any team, although if they want to return to the top places of Liga MX, they will have to strengthen the squad.

Gullermo Ochoa is on the last year of his contract and given that he hasn’t showed any sings of wanting to negotiate a contract extension, Las Águilas have as a priority to find the replacement for the 36-year-old before he leaves.

Who is the goalkeeper that can replace Ochoa?

According to reports from sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez, from Fox Sports, América will lose both of their goalkeepers in December, as Óscar Jiménez also finishes his contract with América after Apertura 2022 is over.

Las Águilas are only planning on renewing one of them and are looking for a new goalkeeper that has experience in Liga MX and has done his process in the Mexico Youth National Team, which is why they have targeted Luis Malagón as their next goalkeeper.

Malagón is currently playing at Club Necaxa, where he was responsible for the goal that gave Club América the 1-0 victory two weeks ago. So far, he’s played 10 games as Los Rayos starting goalkeeper, having two clean sheets.

How much will América have to pay for Malagón?

The 25-year-old goalkeeper joined Necaxa for the 2020-21 Liga MX season out of Monarcas Morelia when they were relocated to Mazatlán. Malagón is under contract with Necaxa until 2024, which is why Las Águilas will have to pay at least $3.3 million to acquire him.
