If this is confirmed, the Argentinean coach, who only held the position as interim coach for the club, would have been chosen by the board of directors as the new head coach of the Águilas.

Who says Fernando Ortiz is staying at Club América?

According to TUDN reporter Gibrán Araige, sources close to the club assured him that the board of Club América considers "Tano" Ortiz as a great candidate to remain in the position.

Ortiz would thus cease to be interim coach and would occupy the position of head coach, left vacant by Santiago Solari at the beginning of the tournament.

With 5 losses at the beginning of the tournament and a couple of draws that did not help them to score many points, the Azulcrema board decided that the best thing for the team was to say thank you to Solari and look for a new coach.

The last match that the former Real Madrid player coached was the match against Rayados de Monterrey when the Águilas lost 2-1. Although in previous days the board of directors had given their support to Solari in the press, after the game against Rayados, the coach's departure from the Coapa club was made official.

What are Fernando "Tano" Ortiz's numbers at the helm of Club América?

Since the change in the coaching staff at the Águilas, the team has achieved 6 wins in a row, 15 goals scored and 1 conceded, and in the Clásico de Clásicos, the coach rescued a 0-0 draw.

And with these 6 wins in a row, the Azulcremas managed to reach 4th place in the general classification, thus achieving a direct pass to the Liguilla, without the need to qualify for the playoffs.

Ortiz's work as coach even surpassed that of their eternal rivals Chivas, who also had a terrible start to the tournament, but managed to get back on track and, although they did not achieve what the Águilas did, they did manage to get into the playoffs.

And according to the Mexican press, it is thanks to this excellent performance that both Santiago Baños, Club América's sports president, and Emilio Azcárraga, the team's owner, have decided that Ortiz will be the club's head coach for next season.
