Liga MX 2022 fans are worried as the Cruz Azul vs Necaxa reclassification match is at risk, to aspire to the Liguilla of the tournament.

And everything seems to indicate that there is a compelling reason to modify the date of this match and, consequently, all the others to be played in the reclassification.

Why is the Cruz Azul vs Necaxa match at risk?

What is happening is that this Monday, May 2, Mexico City authorities activated the Environmental Atmospheric Contingency Protocol for ozone in the MZVM, and therefore, outdoor activities are not recommended.

That is to say, at this moment the pollution in Mexico City is so high that outdoor activities, although not restricted, are not recommended.

This could lead Liga MX authorities to modify the match schedule to prevent both players and fans from suffering the consequences of exposure to pollution.

So far, Mikel Arriola, the president of Liga MX has not commented on this situation, but if the pollution levels remain the same until this weekend, the Cruz Azul vs Necaxa game will likely be postponed.

And if that happens, it is also likely that the other reclassification matches will be postponed so that they can all be played at similar times to those originally planned.

Is this the first time that contamination has affected Liga MX?

No, and there are several reported cases in which pollution in the Valley of Mexico, where Mexico City is located, has interrupted Liga MX activities

For example in June 2018, Cruz Azul decided to suspend a training session due to high pollution indexes and a high level of solar radiation, to avoid putting the players at risk.

Another occasion was when in the Pumas vs Morelia match of the Clausura 2016, the Universitarios had to play outside their usual schedule due to an environmental contingency that made that by government recommendation, both clubs had to play the match at 18:00 central Mexico time.

Another similar situation was experienced in the 2017 Clausura when Chivas had to hold a training session behind closed doors due to a fire in the Bosque de la Primavera, which caused the air quality to be less than optimal.

Therefore, although it is not a certainty, it is a fact that the Cruz Azul vs Necaxa match is at risk if the environmental contingency remains in place until Sunday.
