Even if Cruz Azul have at least eight more games scheduled for the remainder of the season, they are already looking to strengthen their roster for the 2022-23 Liga MX Season, especially since they had to part ways with Brayan Angulo a week ago.

The coach that will replace Juan Reynoso in Cruz Azul

For now, La Máquina has just three strikers on their roster, starting with Santiago Giménez, who has become the predilect forward for Juan Reynoso. Luckily for them, “Chaquito” has answered with goals, as he’s scored three in the 10 games he’s played, although he’s started on just 2 games.

The newly arrived Iván Morales is the second on the list, but the Paraguayan is still adapting to Mexican soccer, which is why he’s started on just one game. The list is completed with Rodrigo Huescas, an 18-year-old striker that already debuted with La Máquina, although he’s mainly used in the U-20 squad.

That’s why Juan Reynoso knows that they need to strengthen their offense for next season if they want to keep competing at the top of Liga MX standings, especially since there’s reports that suggest that Giménez could leave for Europe for next season.

Nicolás “Diente” López is their priority

Juan Reynoso is looking for a high-level striker, something that Angulo was never to fulfill, which is why they are considering acquiring Nicolás “Diente” López from Tigres, as he has the talent to be a starter in any other team.

López hasn’t had enough opportunities in Tigres, given that the starting role is taken by André-Pierre Gignac, which is why he would consider leaving for Cruz Azul if La Máquina manages to negotiate his permanent move.

The only way in which they can acquire the Uruguayan striker is if they acquire their economic rights, as Tigres aren’t planning on loaning him. For now, his market value is set at $8.8 million, a sum that Cruz Azul will only be able to pay if they sell some of the players in their current roster.

What other options they have?

If Los Cementeros don’t manage to add López, they have other options on the desk. One of the forwards that they are considering is Pachuca’s Nicolás Ibañez, who has regained his good streak with Los Tuzos. The other option they have is Toluca’s Alexis Canelo.
