Since Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez left Cruz Azul, La Máquina hasn’t been able to find a striker that could replace him, as Brayan Angulo was called to be that player, given the experience he has and that he knew how things worked in La Máquina, but that hasn’t been the case.

Cruz Azul could lose one of Juan Reynoso's favorite players as he wants to leave La Máquina

Juan Reynoso has put his trust on him as Angulo has played in eight games of Clausura 2022 and one of the CONCACAF Champions League, but the Ecuadorian striker hasn’t been able to reciprocate the trust as he wished, as he’s only scored one goal and assisted on two occasions.

The seemingly poor statistics he’s had, have broken the relationship between him and Cruz Azul followers, who have even chanted against the 26-year-old forward, asking for his departure from La Máquina, something that Reynoso has tried to change.

But with less than six months on his contract, Angulo is looking to leave Cruz Azul and have a fresh start elsewhere, and if he ends up leaving La Máquina, it will become the second striker that departs in less than a year, which is why they’re already looking for his replacement.

Who is the player that could arrive in Cruz Azul?

Juan Reynoso will keep trying to convince Angulo to stay in Cruz Azul and extend his contract, as he knows that he still has a lot to give to La Máquina, but if he fails to do it, his second choice will be returning a player that already was part of Los Cementeros.

According to reports from W Deportes, Cruz Azul is considering opening the doors to a former player that just left La Máquina, Alexis Gutiérrez, who has been excelling with Tapatío, Chivas reserves team that plays in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Cruz Azul in 2019 out of Chivas academy teams, but never had the opportunity of becoming a regular in the senior squad, which is why they decided to send him on to Tapatío, where he’s played eight games and has assisted on two occasions.

How much will it take for La Máquina to have him back?

Alexis Gutiérrez is on a loan with Tapatío, which means they wouldn’t have to pay for his arrival in La Máquina if they wished to have him back, but according to Transfermarkt, his current market value is set at $550,000 if any other team were to buy him.
