Club América were eliminated in the semifinals of Clausura 2022 by CF Pachuca after falling on their visit to Estadio Hidalgo with a 3-0 score that gave Los Tuzos the ticket to the final given that the 4-1 aggregate favored them.

Can Guillermo Ochoa leave Club América before Apertura 2022?

Although the fact that Las Águilas were able to reach the semifinals is an outstanding result for the Azulcremas, given that they had one of their worst starts in Liga MX in over 60 years, Fernando “Tano” Ortíz knows that they could have done more.

“El Tano” took over the team after week 8, when América decided to sack Santiago Solari after the poor results achieved during his stint, as he left Las Águilas at the bottom of the table with only six points, result of one victory and three draws.

Ortíz quickly found a way of returning Club América to the right track after debuting with a loss against Monterrey, as the second defeat that they suffered with “Tano” in the dugout was the past Sunday, against CF Pachuca.

América in need of restructuring the roster

But even if he found a good lineup to face Clausura 2022, Ortíz knows that he needs to do a locker room cleanout before Apertura 2022 starts, as there are some players that are only taking space in the roster instead of contributing to the team.

The Argentine coach also knows that before he can add new players that suit his system and that can boost the current roster, he needs to part ways with the ones that either didn’t play since he took over the team, or that were involved in mistakes that costed them points.

The firs player on the list is Juan Ferney Otero, who had good performances while playing for Santos Laguna but never found a place in América, as his arrival was more of a whim from Solari than an actual need for Las Águilas.

Who are the other two players that Ortíz doesn’t want?

The second player that didn’t have participation with Club América and that Ortíz is not planning on using is Jonathan dos Santos, who has had an irrelevant stint in Mexican soccer since his arrival. Finally, Federico Viñas could leave on a loan to recover his level before being considered again by “El Tano”.
