In Round 11 of Liga MX 2022, Roger Martínez, Alejandro Zendejas and Diego Valdés gave the Aguilas the win in the Club América vs Toluca match.
Emilio Azcárraga finally decided who is going to be the next Club América coach
With a score of 3-0 and an absolute dominance of the Coapa club, the Aguilas demonstrated at home and with their people that they can become a fearsome team at any moment.
Not only did the Aguilas beat Toluca, but they did it with their goal without a single goal from their opponents, showing the power to which their fans have always been accustomed.
The match started like any other, but from the 7th minute on, the Aguilas began to demonstrate that at the Azteca Stadium they are the ones in charge and no one else.
At that moment, a corner kick was taken and after a series of rebounds, Roger Martínez was left alone with the ball in front of Gustavo Gutiérrez's goal.
Martinez immediately shot and, although the goal was questioned at first due to claims of offside, the referee reviewed the play and declared the goal valid.
But that would only be the first goal for the Aguilas, as the 2-0 would come from a free kick taken by Diego Valdés, who scored spectacularly.
The barrier was set up, everyone took their positions and as soon as the referee whistled, Valdés connected a powerful shot that curved in the air to enter the Toluca goal and score the second goal of the match.
And this happened in the 15th minute, but what no one expected was that Aguilas' third goal would come in the 18th minute, just 3 minutes after the previous goal.
After a mistaken start in which the Diablos Rojos lost the ball, Henry Martín sent across to Alejandro Zendejas, who was in front of the goal, and he headed the ball into the back of the net.
The Aguilas showed signs of life and under the direction of Fernando Ortiz, their interim coach, they destroyed Toluca and now go against Necaxa, who have just beaten Pumas UNAM.
Club America is now in 15th place in the tournament, and if they continue to play as they did today, they will probably have a chance to reach the Liguilla.
With today's win, the Coapa club now has 2 wins, 4 draws, and 5 defeats, and has just added 3 goals to its quota.
Will this be the awakening of the team that their fans have been longing for or are it just a momentary result?
Either way, only time will tell, but it is good to see Club América playing at the level their fans and Liga MX deserve.
