Chivas won’t renew Alexis Vega but they already found his replacement

For Club América, things have gone south since the first game of Clausura 2022, as both Santiago Solari and Roger Martínez were sent off on the opening game. Las Águilas couldn’t stand the poor results that Solari achieved and sacked him after eight rounds.

For Chivas, the crisis started last season, when Amaury Vergara decided to rescind Victor Manuel Vucetich’s contract and instead, he placed Marcelo Michel Leaño in El Rebaño’s dugout. For Apertura 2021, Chivas were eliminated in Repechaje by Club Puebla.

For the current season, thing haven’t got any better, as the lack of a solid long-term project have become obvious, not only for the people watching their games, but also for the players, who usually don’t have a plan to follow through the 90 minutes.

Which player wants to leave?

It’s evident that Chivas often have to rely in individualities to save at least a point, which have resulted in 4 loses after nine games, including a 3-2 comeback by La Franja, who were losing 2-0 at halftime. Raúl Gudiño has been aware of these problems and is ready to leave El Rebaño.

Gudiño was a regular in Michel Leaño’s starting XI, but when he realized that things are not going to get any better, he decided that renewing with Chivas wasn’t worth it. According to reports, his contract ends over the summer, which is why he wants to look for a fresh start.

Although his decision of not renewing might have cost him his starting role, as Amaury Vergara is not willing to let him walk without leaving them any assets. For the last Chivas game, Gudiño had to watch the game from the bench, something he’ll do again against Las Águilas, as his return to the starting XI is condition to his renewal.

Gudiño’s numbers with Chivas

Before the 2021-22 Liga MX Season started, Gudiño had troubles establishing as the starting goalkeeper for Chivas, given that he shared the goal with Antonio Rodríguez, but since he left for Querétaro, Gudiño finally took over the starting role. So far, he’s played eight games in Clausura 2022, keeping just one clean sheet, and receiving 14 goals.
