Now that Premier League is coming to an end and the title is on the line for either Manchester City or Liverpool to grab on the last game of the season, teams are already planning what will be the 2022-23 season for them.

One of the teams that need to reinforce is Chelsea FC, as they couldn’t compete against the Citizens and the Red Devils for the Premier League title this season, something that they will need to change over the summer if they want to be contenders once again.

The Blues haven’t won Premier League since the 2016-17 season, something that they will try to revert next season, although for that to happen they need to sign key players, especially since they are going to lose one of their pillars.

According to reports, N’golo Kanté is followed closely by Manchester United, as now that Erik ten Hag became their new coach, the Red Devils are looking to make a statement by acquiring one of the best midfielders in recent years.

América could help them get Kanté’s replacement

One of the players that can take over the spot that Kanté will leave in Chelsea’s midfield is an old acquaintance of both Club América and Erik ten Hag, and even if he was his first option for Manchester United a few weeks ago, he now could be wearing the Blues colors.

According to reports from Diario AS, Chelsea has been observing Edson Álvarez since the winter transfer window, and now that one of their stars will likely leave over the summer, they can revive the interest they had in the PSV Eindhoven’s midfielder.

Álvarez arrived at Eredivisie out of Club América back in 2019 for a transfer fee of $16 million, but his arrival at the Boeren had a clause that established that Las Águilas would receive 15% of the income that PSV received for him in an eventual selling.

How much can Chelsea pay for him?

According to Transfermarkt, the market value of the 24-year-old defensive midfielder is set at $22 million, an affordable sum for a team like Chelsea, especially if they part ways with the Frenchman. From those $22 million, Las Águilas will receive $3 million, approximately.
