One of the things that Chivas have been lacking throughout Clausura 2022 is a striker that can contribute consistently, especially now that El Rebaño Sagrado has left the results crisis behind and will receive the game of Repechaje at home.

The conditions that Carlos Acevedo established to arrive at Chivas

Ricardo Cadena was able to continue his unbeaten streak since he took over El Rebaño Sagrado four games ago, after Amaury Vergara decided to part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño given the irregular performances and poor results Chivas achieved during his stint.

On the last game of the regular season, Chivas ensured their presence in Repechaje and the home advantage thanks to the 1-0 victory with a last-minute goal scored by Miguel Ponce over Club Necaxa, who were also looking to continue their good streak.

But even if Cadena has found a way to connect all players under the same idea, he knows that they are still lacking a forward that can score to have a team that can compete against any other rival, as Ángel Zaldívar has scored just one goal since the third round and José Juan Macías is dealing with injuries.

Chivas had the perfect striker, but Vergara blacklisted him

Ricardo Cadena knows that even if they have Paolo Yrízar on CD Tapatío, Chivas’s reserves team that competes in Liga de Expansión, they need another striker to have a nurtured roster, especially since Zaldívar could end up leaving El Rebaño once the season is over.

Eduardo “Chofis” López has the talent and the aim to take the leading role in Chivas, but given that Amaury Vergara blacklisted him, his future seems to be away from El Rebaño, even if they still own his economic rights.

According to reports from ESPN, now that Matías Almeyda signed with AEK Athens, he wants to bring with him “Chofis” López, one of his most trusted players, on his new adventure in Europe, opening the door to a new Mexican to play in Europe.

How much will AEK Athens will have to pay for López?

The 27-year-old is on his last year of contract with Chivas, as it expires in December, although he’s been playing at San José Earthquakes on a loan for the past year. If the Quakes doesn’t exercise the buy option, he’ll have to return to Chivas for the second semester of the year, giving Almeyda the chance of acquiring him for $2.7 million.
