Clausura 2022 finished for CF Monterrey in Repechaje after they couldn’t beat Atlético San Luis, who earned the ticket to Liguilla after winning the penalty shootout that decided the game, given that the regular time ended in a 2-2 draw.

The two heads that rolled at Pumas UNAM are not enough and the fans are asking for more

It’s no lie to say that the season for Rayados was a failure, as they couldn’t make it into the semifinals of the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup and had to settle for the fifth place, and then, even if they changed coaches during the season given the poor results of Javier Aguirre, the efforts of Victor Manuel Vucetich weren’t enough to return to Liguilla.

It’s worth noting that is the second time that Rayados is eliminated in Repechaje in the past two years, as for Apertura 2021, Club Puebla also visited Estadio BBVA and managed to tie the game in the last minutes to send it to a penalty shootout that La Franja ended up winning.

But after the poor performance that Monterrey had in Clausura 2022, both the team and the players are deciding what’s the next step for them, as Rayados know that they need to strengthen the squad -which is the highest-valued in all the American continent-, as well as some of the players that are looking to continue their careers away from Monterrey.

He’s ready to become a Chivas player for Apertura 2022

One of the players that hasn’t been happy for a while in Monterrey and is looking to leave Rayados on the next transfer window to earn more playing time is Arturo “Poncho” González, who still aspires to play in the World Cup.

According to reports from RG La Deportiva, the 27-year-old midfielder already had conversations with Chivas in the past and given that he’s not planning on renewing his contract with Rayados, he now is a free agent that can negotiate his arrival at Chivas for free.

Before the 2021-22 season started, Chivas were interested in acquiring him, but Monterrey refused to let him go. Now, González knows that El Rebaño is his best option to increase his playing time in hopes of being considered by Gerardo “Tata” Martino for Qatar 2022.

González’s numbers with Monterrey

“Ponchito” González joined Rayados back in 2016 out of Atlas for a $3.7 million transfer fee. In the six seasons he’s played for Monterrey, he’s disputed 175 games, in which he’s scored 21 goals and assisted on 14 occasions.
