Oleksandr Shovkovskiy retire from Dynamo Kiev for years ago. He is the player with the most presence in the history of the club from the Ukrainian capital. With the national team, he has played 92 matches. The best of him was given during th 2006 World Cup, where he saved three penalties on a playoff game against Switzerland.

On December 13, 2016, Shovkovskiy announced his retirement from professional football. Four seasons later, been 45 years old, he will put on his gloves again due to the number of players that can't be available for this game for his national team. Three of them are the goalkeepers Andriy Pyatov, Andry Lunin and Yuriy Pankiv.

Despite the fact that Shovkovskiy will be among those called up for the match, the Ukrainian federation has already warned through a statement that it's unlikely for him to play, unless Bushchan, the starting goalkeeper, presents any physical problems that prevent him from playing in any of the three matches scheduled for this international window.

Today, the Ukrainians will face France at the Stade de France in Paris, on a friendly game. After that, they will face Germany and Spain in the Nations League. The team, coached by former Ukrainian star Andriy Shevchenko, is positioned on the second spot, just one point away from leader's Spain.
