After Antigua GFC decided to rescind his contract prior the start of the Guatemalan league in 2022, Carlos “Gullit” Peña has been a free agent, as he hasn’t found a team where he could continue his soccer career.

“Gullit” Peña was known for the problems outside the pitch he used to have, not only in Liga MX, but also during his stint in Europe, when he couldn’t become a regular in the Scottish soccer neither in Polish second flight, where he didn’t attend to the preseason when he was asked to.
He’s one of Mexico’s most talented players in the last decade, but his lack of attitude, added to his taste for parties and nightlife diminished his career and shortened his stay with Mexico National Team, as he couldn’t find a place in El Tri after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Was he fired from his last team for the same reasons?
Although his departure from the Guatemalan soccer took everyone by surprise, as he had helped Antigua reach the semifinals just a season earlier, it wasn’t because he was involved in scandals. On the contrary, his former teammates have said that he was one of the most determined players they’ve shared dressing room with.
