Lautaro Martínez is enjoying an excellent season in Inter Milan, reinforced by the brace he scored last weekend in the city derby against fierce rivals’ AC Milan. The 23-year-old is about to sign a juicy contract extension to remain at the club, possibly, until 2024. But he has gone under difficult moments before these brilliant weeks.

Some time ago he was reportedly followed by Barcelona, who before the critical health situation that shocked the world, were about to sign him. The rumors made the young Argentinian star lose his head and therefore, his performance dropped. But some good advice from experienced people helped him regain his level.

No other than Hernán Crespo, one of Argentina’s national team top scorers ever, only behind Lionel Messi and Gabriel Batistuta, revealed he suggested Martínez not to sign for Barcelona. He told La Gazzetta Dello Sport that the young star followed his advice and stayed in Inter for some more time. ‘I was not wrong’, he said.

Being now 45 years old, Crespo has just lifted the Copa Sudamericana which is the equal to the UEFA Europa League in South America. The club he was coaching, Argentina’s Defensa y Justicia, won the tournament in with a top-level display against fellow Argentinian contenders Lanús. They won the final match 3-0 in Córdoba, Argentina.

Recently, after the title he crowned last month, Crespo left Defensa y Justicia and became new head coach for Brazilian giants Sao Paulo.
