The transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo has continued to reap benefits for the board and management of Manchester United. The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner joined the English Premier League on a deal worth £15m from Italian giants, Juventus. Ronaldo returned to the club he left in 2009 after spending 12 seasons at Real Madrid and Juventus.

The signing of Ronaldo was always going to be a success for United both on and off the pitch. The 36-year-old forward is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the history of the game, having scored almost 1000 goals in the whole of his career. While off the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo has one of the best marketing brand images in the whole of the sports world.

His popularity and image are what has made the Glazer Family, owners of Manchester United more money again without Cristiano Ronaldo kicking a ball or lifting a trophy. Earlier in the week, the Glazer family decided to sell off a sizeable chunk of their shares at Manchester United on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

The Glazer family put up 9.5 million of their shares at Manchester United for sale. However, it was reported that since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United, the value of United's shares has gone up. Thus, the Glazer family were able to make an extra £15.7m from the shares they sold because of the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
