Robert Lewandowski has taken the world of football by storm since Hansi Flick took charge of Bayern Munich in January 2020 and turned the season around for the Bavarian giants and led them to the sextuple winning all trophies they competed in that season.

Lewandowski was clearly the best player in 2020 and rightfully won the FIFA Best Men's Player of the year but could not put his hands on the prestigious Ballon d'Or award. The organisers, France Football cancelled the award citing a season disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic as reason.

Lewandowski entered 2021 and didn't lift his feet off the gas, he continued his goalscoring exploits and helped his team achieve success. He broke the Bundesliga goal scoring record set by Gerd Muller with his last kick of last season, he scored 41 to surpass the legend's 40 goals.

The Polish striker has scored 54 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich this season, more than any other player which clearly puts him in a position of advantage to win the 2021 Ballon d'Or. He was the elected winner in the hearts of many last year even though he was not awarded.
