Wolverhampton Wanderers was one of the English Premier League’ssensations for many reasons: the first one is their coach Nuno Espírito Santo, a former goalkeeper from Portugal who brought many talented players from his country. After returning to the Premier League, they developed into a seriously competitive team that ended up playing the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals last year.

The other main reason comes from overseas: Raúl Jiménez. The Mexican striker arrived from Benfica after Wolverhampton paid over $40 million for his transfer, ahead of 2019-2020 season. He immediately started paying back with lots of goals. In his first season with the yellow gold shirt he scored 17 in 38 games as per the English Premier League, and four more in nine Europa League games- But his life faced a serious challenge last year November 29 playing against Arsenal. He suffered a serious collision against David Luiz and suffered a skull fracture.

He was unconscious and spent five days in hospital until he was released and started a long recovery. It is remarkable that he could recover from a skull fracture, something from which many athletes in other disciplines like motorsports could not resist. His coach Nuno Espirito Santo has recently stated that he doesn’t know when he will be back, but he seems confident. That is the reason that makes 29-year-old Jiménez try hard every day.

Recently the striker gave an interview the Mexican newspaper Estilo DF in which he revealed shocking details from those difficult moments. He has stated that he has some blurry memories in his mind, and he barely remembers the events. He said that he never thought about retiring from sucker and he is fully confident to be back. He remembers to have spent five days in hospital. but nothing else. Wolverhampton wanderers support him on his way to recovery.

A German memory

Something similar to what Jiménez suffered has happened to former international midfielder Christoph Kramer. He had played just 10 minutes against Algeria in the 2014 World Cup round of 16, but later, he had to replace Sami Khedira, who picked an injury warming up before the final match against Argentina. He collided with former Real Madrid's center back Ezequiel Garay in the first half, and suffered a black-out in his mind. Years after, it was revealed that when he stood up, he asked the referee Nicola Rizzoli what match was he playing.
