The football world was so happy for Mexican striker Raúl Jimenez when he scored his first goal after recovering from a skull fracture he suffered in 2020. It has been a very long time coming for the 30year old who many were unsure he would ever play football again after the horrific injury but scored to help his club Wolverhampton Wanderers win an important three point. He now wears a protective headguard to protect his fractured skull.

When was Raul Jimenez injured?

Mexico and Wolves striker Raúl Jimenez was injured in a Premier League match against Arsenal on November 30, 2020 after colliding with Arsenal and Brazilian defender David Luiz when competing for a header during a corner. Jimenez fell unconscious and woke up in a hospital later. A scan later revealed he had suffered a broken skull and that he may never play football again. He underwent surgery and began his recovery process though it was unsure whether he would ever play football again. In February 2021, he started running at Wolves training centre but yet to receive clearance for a competitive appearance.

What did the doctors tell Raul Jimenez?

Raul Jimenez in an interview revealed the doctors told him it was a miracle that he survived the head injury. "From the first moment, the surgeons and doctors told me what happened and the risks," Jimenez said. "Sometimes it's not what you want to hear but it's their job. They told me it was a miracle to be here. The bone had broken and there was a little bit of bleeding inside my brain. That's why the surgery had to be quick and it was a really good job from the doctors. Since the beginning, they have been really supportive of me. The skull fracture took a little bit longer than we all expected to heal and it really is a miracle for me to be here with you." Jimenez told reporters after his goal.

How many days and games did he miss?

Raúl Jimenez was injured on November 30, 2020 and before his return to pre-season training for Wolves, he missed a total of 227days to recover from his injury. During this time he missed 31 matches for Wolves and a few others for Mexico. His goal came 336days after his last goal.

What he said about his goal?

The Mexican took to social media page Twitter to talk about his goal after the match. "This goal is not celebrated by me alone, it is celebrated by my family, all my teammates, the doctors, physios, and all the people who have always supported me and never doubted that I would come back stronger. This is the way and keep working to go for more." He tweeted.
