English forward Jesse Lingard's contract with Manchester United will expire at the end of the season and will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January over a potential transfer away from Manchester United but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he wants to keep him at the club beyond this season.

“He’s got this season left of his contract, and the club is talking to him and his dad, and we see him as a Man United player in the future as well. Jesse has come back to us after a great spell at West Ham. He showed his qualities, he’s got back into the England squad and he’s scoring goals for England," Solskjaer said.

“We really want to see the best of Jesse this season and we hope to see him, we support him, and we hope to keep him here with us. He’s a Red through and through.” he continued.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United where he scored nine goals and provided a further five assists in 16 games, helping the club qualify for Europa League. He was expected to join the Hammers permanently but has stayed at Manchester United. West Ham manager David Moyes confirmed Solskjaer told him he would be staying.

"Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] made it clear to me quite early in the transfer window that he wanted to keep him. So I knew pretty early in the transfer window that he was staying at Manchester United. I had a private conversation with Ole who made it clear that he was staying." Moyes said.

It has been a mixed season for Lingard so far. He scored the fourth goal in the 4-1 over Newcastle on Cristiano Ronaldo's debut. He was also responsible for the loss against Young Boys. He made the backpass that led to Young Boys winner in the last minute of the match.
