Messi in the Ligue 1: Which records can the Maestro break

Lionel Messi will hope for a swift start to life in the French Capital club of Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine was unveiled to the Parisian fans on Saturday as PSG played a home game against Strasbourg. The 6-time Ballon d'Or winner has yet to take to the field because of a lack of match fitness.

When Lionel Messi finally plays for PSG, it is expected that he will shine alongside Neymar, Mbappe and Angel di Maria. He routinely broke Barcelona and La Liga records while turning out at the Camp Nou and fans will expect he does the same at the Parc des Princes. We will look at some of the records the Argentine might shatter during his time in the Ligue 1.

Most goals in a season (44): This record is currently held by Josip Skoblar at 44 goals. The Argentine routinely scores over 40 goals in a season and this might not be a tall order for him. Provided Mauricio Pochettino plays his talisman in as many Ligue 1 and cup games as possible, this is well within reach for Lionel Messi. 

Most Assists in a season (18): Messi's Argentine pal, Angel di Maria holds this record. This is another record that is easily within reach for the 6-time Ballon d'Or winner. Messi has made 315 career assists all time, you'd expect more than 18 assists from the spectacular playmaker this season.

Fastest Hat-trick (5 minutes): This might be a more difficult record to break but certainly within reach for Lionel Messi. Playing alongside attacking superstars such as Neymar, Mbappe and Verratti, Messi might do well to score 3 goals in less than 5 minutes. His current fastest hat-trick stands at 12 minutes against Rayo Vallecano on March 8, 2015.

Most goals in a Ligue 1 match (7): Fans will expect a feast of goals this season from Ligue 1. Just as Messi can create them, he can score them. Same as his attacking pairs. PSG has also been known to utterly dominate matches. It would take only a good night for Messi to break Jean Nicholas' Ligue's 1 record of 7 goals in one season. 

Most Assists in Ligue 1 (101): This would probably take more than 2 seasons to break. But with an extended stay in the Ligue 1, expect Lionel Messi to break Dimitri Payet's record of 101 Ligue 1 assists.
