The Mexican National Team, led by Gerardo Martino, managed to overtake their Iceland rival with a comeback led by Napoli's forward Hirving Lozano. The scoreboard was opened from minute 14 and the rivals went up. Although the disadvantage remained for much of the game, Tata's tactical decision was favorable for Chucky to score the winning goals.

The Mexicans jumped onto the pitch with an alternative formation. Because it was a friendly match, the helmsman decided to use men who normally don't appear in the starting draw. One of them was Diego Lainez who, although he could not score a goal, was a fundamental piece in the attack due to his skill and imbalance.

With the initial whistle, Mexico proposed a more offensive game than Iceland. However, the visitors knew how to ward off the danger and generate some actions against the goal defended by Alfredo Talavera. In this way, in one of the counterattacks, they managed to take the advantage. Defender Már Sævarsson fired from mid-range. Although the ball was not heading for the goal, a deflection by Edson Álvarez put it into the back of the net in the 14th minute.

The advantage was maintained until the break. At times, Diego Lainez and Uriel Antuna managed to violate the rival defense, but the forcefulness was not on their side. For the second half, Martino decided to keep the same players he started with. Arrivals and possession remained in favor of Mexico, but the goal could not be opened.

In the 62nd minute, when he prepared the first substitutions for him, the central judge decided to stop the game. The reason was the persistence of some sectors of the public for making the discriminatory cry when the visiting goalkeeper made the clearances. The decision upset Martino, but it didn't change. In fact, those responsible were taken from the sports complex.

Once the referee decided to resume the game, the changes were made. In place of defender Carlos Salcedo, midfielder Héctor Herrera entered. The bet of the coach of Mexico was clear, since the second substitution was Hirving Lozano for Jesús Gallardo, as well as Néstor Araujo for Carlos Rodríguez.

Ten minutes after the modifications, speed took over the offensive trident. In a counterattack, Diego Lainez received the ball in the midfield and led it to the rival area. Behind him he was pursued by two defenders and one more sought to interrupt his path ahead. However, before the three got close, he served Lozano aside, who took off a sweep and defined with the inside. The score was tied.

Gerardo Martino immediately embraced his coaching staff as he recognized the opportunity for his modifications. Five minutes later, his team went to the helm of the current Spanish La Liga champion with Atlético Madrid.

Once again Diego Lainez took the ball and passed it to Héctor Herrera. El Zorro drove into the area and, after faking a couple of times, turned to send a cross into the small area. In that place Lozano was found, who headed and decreed the definitive victory for Mexico.
