But Televisa, who has controlled Liga MX and Mexican players, not only helps players to achieve long-waited dreams, like playing in Europe or even playing for the team where his father played, like Giovani dos Santos achieved by playing in Club América, but they also can destroy careers.

When he breakout in Liga MX, Carlos “Gullit” Peña showed that he had better skills and abilities than what Dos Santos had demonstrated, even with Barcelona. But Televisa decided to erase “Gullit” to back up Dos Santos as El Tri starter, although he never was able to establish himself as the player El Tri hoped he’d be.

What happened to “Gullit” Peña?

After several scandals that cut short his aspirations of regaining the level he showed with Club León, Carlos Peña continued his career in Central America, although recently he became a free agent after Guatemalan side Antigua GFC rescinded his contract. While he waits to see if there’s another chance to continue his career, he sells shoes on his own brand GP27.
