It’s no lie to say that, at least in Mexico, some players have the chance to have fruitful careers only if they receive a boost by El Tri sponsors, like Televisa, who has helped to forge careers since decades ago, although no one really know how they chose the players they like the most.
Can Mexico National Team beat USMNT without Lozano?
But Televisa, who has controlled Liga MX and Mexican players, not only helps players to achieve long-waited dreams, like playing in Europe or even playing for the team where his father played, like Giovani dos Santos achieved by playing in Club América, but they also can destroy careers.
When he breakout in Liga MX, Carlos “Gullit” Peña showed that he had better skills and abilities than what Dos Santos had demonstrated, even with Barcelona. But Televisa decided to erase “Gullit” to back up Dos Santos as El Tri starter, although he never was able to establish himself as the player El Tri hoped he’d be.
After several scandals that cut short his aspirations of regaining the level he showed with Club León, Carlos Peña continued his career in Central America, although recently he became a free agent after Guatemalan side Antigua GFC rescinded his contract. While he waits to see if there’s another chance to continue his career, he sells shoes on his own brand GP27.
Gerardo Martino won’t leave El Tri until they fulfill this request
