However, Kylian Mbappé, the Frenchman star, was in charge of ruining Courtois dream night with an amazing play in stoppage after dribbling down the left side, overcoming the Real Madrid defenders, and beating the Belgian goalkeeper with his shot.

What did Courtois say?

At the end of the match, Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's best player, who saved his team on several occasions and ensured that Messi did not score from the penalty spot, spoke to the media and told how he experienced the goal that led to his team's defeat.

"We lost a very stupid ball, Mbappé won the two-on-one, and just as I go to make the block the ball goes underneath me. It makes me very angry. I did everything to keep a clean sheet and for it to end like this is hard," said the Belgian.

He also left a message for the referee: "The referee was a bit generous with the yellow cards, we will have to fight the second leg with what we have available".

On his penalty save against Messi, he said: "I've studied Leo a bit, I saved one with Atlético. It's a bit of luck that he takes it there, but conceding at the last second is very hard".

Courtois is aware that the tie is wide open

"It's always normal when you play against an opponent like this. We started well, but we didn't find our composure, we suffered and we didn't counterattack well. We lost the ball at the last moment and it's a shame. Everything is open for the second leg," he added about the match.

Casemiro and Mendy were yellow-carded, leaving them out for the second leg at the Bernabeu. "It's a shame, but we have a full squad. Mendy's foul I don't know if it's a yellow or not," he said. Finally, he concluded that Mbappé "is one of the best in the world".
