Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he told the Paris Saint-Germain management team that he wants to leave the club. According to the 22-year-old forward, he informed the club of his decision in July so they would have enough time to strike a deal with another club and use the money they'll raise from his transfer to get a decent replacement for him. This alerted Spanish club, Real Madrid to put in bids for the player to move to the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer.

How much did Real Madrid bid for Kylian Mbappe?

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, it became open that Mbappe was ready to leave PSG. His long-time admirers, Real Madrid then put in a series of bids to lure PSG into letting go of their prized asset. The Los Blancos initially put in an offer of €160m which the Parisians rejected immediately.  Afterwards, Madrid offered a deal worth €180m to Paris, after which the Ligue 1 club reportedly went silent.

The final offer by Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe was thought to be €220m, just €2m less the world record fee that PSG paid for Neymar in 2017. PSG reportedly rejected the bid despite Mbappe refusing to sign a contract extension. The €220m bid offered would have been a close second on the most expensive football transfers but how would it compare with other sports stars?

Stephen Curry's contract with Golden State Warriors

Superstar basketball player signed one of the most expensive sports contracts ever when he negotiated a $215m contract extension to stay at Golden State Warriors. The deal would see him get paid about $54m per year till the 2025/26 season. This was also a significant upgrade on the 5-year $201m contract he signed with the Warriors in 2016. Stephen Curry's contract remains one of the biggest in NBA history.

Patrick Mahomes contract with Kansas City Chiefs

Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes became the highest-paid sportsman in the world when he signed a $504m 10-year contract extension for Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year. Mahomes' contract guarantees an annual pay of $40m starting from the 2022/23 season. The NFL club made history with the Patrick Mahomes deal and there are rumours that another negotiation would come up midway through the contract in 2027.
