It was at the 42nd minute when the controversial action was triggered, as a live ball in Allison's area bounced and fell into the legs of Karim Benzema, who wasted no time and shot at goal, however, his goal was disallowed, which nipped in the bud the celebration that the Merengues fans had started in the French stadium.

The referee had to resort to the VAR to determine whether the goal scored by the French striker should count or not, and after a few minutes that made everyone live in suspense, the referee determined that the goal should not have been disallowed because it was scored offside, a decision that did not leave Carlo Ancelotti's team at all happy.

Should Karim Benzema's goal in the Champions League final have been disallowed? This is what the rules say

According to soccer regulations, an offside offense is determined when a player takes advantage of the ball when it has been deflected or has bounced off a post, the crossbar, a member of the referee's staff, or an opponent.

But Benzema was also in an advanced position as his back was in front of an opposing player, so the referee had to disallow the goal, spoiling the celebrations of the Merengues at the Stade de France.
