Why did time end up giving the reason to MLS on FIFA?
MLS faced FIFA to avoid having to give up the players with their national teams but FIFA rejected that decition
The MLS did not want to give up its players and several teams finally decided not to do so for fear of catching Covid 19. In the last hours it would have been leaked that Peruvian players would have the virus and among them is Ruidiaz from Real Salt Lake. The MLS is under a strict protocol to try to avoid the greatest possible risk.
FIFA forced the clubs to give up their players as long as the quarantine upon their return was less than 5 days. Many MLS clubs decided not to give them up for that very reason, but others did not cut off their players. Today the concern in teams like Real Salt Lake is great since their player is involved in a direct case of Covid.
MLS had reason enough to argue that its players should not break the health bubble that it had designed so that the MLS Cup was played as normally as possible, but for FIFA that was not enough to let the players stay in the United States. After a long dispute and talks, FIFA finally told the players to travel.
Today, with the newspaper on Monday, the MLS showed FIFA that it was wrong and that it will surely not yield to more players in the future. FIFA was left in a disadvantageous position with MLS because exactly what they did not want to happen happened. Now we just have to wait for this FIFA date to end and see how the MLS players return.
