Los Angeles FC achieved something great last Sunday. For the first time in their history, reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, becoming the first American based team in doing so since Real Salt Lake City did in 2011. Nonetheless, the MLS representation was still there, when Montreal Impact and Toronto FC played the decisive match in 2015 and 2018.

The comeback against Club America was astounding, as well as Carlos Vela's performance. What happened at Orlando City Stadium on Sunday will be remembered at Los Angeles for a long time, but it had an extra fact that will make the whole MLS proud because nobody was able to do so.

That is because Los Angeles FC knocked out Club Leon, Cruz Azul and Club America in their path to the final, meaning this is the first time ever a MLS club defeats three teams from Liga MX in the same edition of CONCACAF Champions League. If they beat Tigres in the final, it will be four.

LAFC will try to take the tournament to America for the first time in the century, given the only MLS champions of the tournament were D.C. United in 1998 and Los Angeles Galaxy in 2000. If Tigres win, it will be 15 years in a row that a Mexican team lifts the trophy. However, it would be the first time ever for the Monterrey based club, that lost the three finals disputed in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
