It's still a mystery if Andrea Pirlo, one of the best players in Italian history, is a good coach. He has only coached a couple of games, and it's still to be seen if his teams will play similarly to how he used to. In any case, the game against Dynamo Kiev wasn't good for Juventus. Dynamo Kiev, with much less talent, proposed a very smart game. Pirlo should have expected that because he has known Mircea Lucescu, Kiev's coach, for more than 25 years.
It happens that back in 1995 it was Lucescu who promoted Pirlo from Brescia youth division to the first team. More over, on May 21th, 1995, Lucescu sent Pirlo onto the field for the first time as a professional, at 16 years old, in a Serie A game against Reggina Calcio, replacing Marco Schenardi.
Later on, in 1998, Pirlo was acquired by Inter Milán. There he reunited with Mircea Lucescu, how was actually the coach that more minutes of playing time gave him at Internazionale. When Lucescu was sacked neither Luciano Castellini nor Roy Hodgson counted on him. For that reason, he was sent on loan to Reggina and, some years later, he was bought by A.C. Milan.
As amazing as life is, more than 25 years after Lucescu gave Pirlo the chance to start his professional career, they met again, just in the same game that Pirlo is debuting as head coach in UEFA Champions League. Non of both may have thought, back in 1995, that the destiny had this meet prepared for them. Life and football are weird and incredible.
