The 'Clasico Regio' between Monterrey and Tigres UANL on Monday 23rd will witness the clash of two historic rivals in an entertaining Liga MX Matchday 9 fixture. But beyond that, a major subplot to the match is the clash of two prolific strikers in Rogelio Funes Mori of Monterrey and Andre-Pierre Gignac of Tigres UANL. Both strikers boast of impressive records in the Mexican Liga BBVA MX and will be hoping to outscore the other when UANL travels to Monterrey's Estadio BBVA on Monday.

Rogelio Funes Mori's statistics and records for Monterrey

Argentine-born Rogelio Funes Mori has been with the Monterrey side since 2015, having joined the Liga MX team after a 2-year spell with Portuguese Primera Liga side, Benfica. The player failed to dazzle in Europe despite coming with a bit of a reputation from his days at River Plate. The 30-year-old striker is the all-time leading goalscorer for Monterrey, having scored a total of 126 goals from 251 appearances.

Rogelio Funes Mori has consistently hit double figures in all 6 seasons at the Estadio BBVA so far, only twice failing to score at least 20 goals in a season, 19 (2017/18) and 17 (2020/21). The Argentine-born striker also just recently changed his playing nationality and got called up to the Mexican National Team. He has also shown his prolific streak with the El Tri, scoring 4 goals in 10 matches.

Andre-Pierre Gignac's statistics and records for Tigres UANL

French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is the talisman for Tigres UANL and has been for over 6 years. The target man moved to the Liga MX in the summer of 2015, the same time with Rogelio Funes Mori. After successful spells in the French Ligue 1 with Lens, Toulouse and Marseille, Gignac joined the MLS revolution and he has since found it pleasing.

Andre-Pierre Gignac is the all-time leading goalscorer of UANL, scoring a total of 149 goals from 261 games so far. In the 2015/16 season, Gignac scored an impressive 33 goals in 50 games in all competitions, announcing himself as a force of nature in the Liga MX. He has not hit the same heights since then but he has consistently put in double figures in goals since he joined Tigres UANL.

The French forward is no longer in the picture for National duty with Les Bleus, his last appearance was in 2016, the same as his last goal. When both Rogelio Funes Mori and Andre-Pierre Gignac clash on Monday, it would be epic for both strikers. The perfect supporting cast from both sides makes the 'Clasico Regio' a must-watch as always.
