The fourth round of the Qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022 will face Mexico against Canada in the Azteca Stadium, a venue where the Mexican National Team is very strong and in which the red team has never been able to achieve a victory.

Both teams have met in the Coloso de Santa Úrsula by Qualifying a total of six times, with a result of five victories for the Aztecs and only one draw. The first meeting between the two took place in the qualifying tournament for the 1974 World Cup in Germany. That day, September 6, 1972, Mexico won 2-1 with goals from Cesáreo Victorino and Fernando Bustos. Since then, all would be good news for the tricolor in this type of confrontation.

Canada returned to Mexico City to face them in the preliminary round for the 1982 World Cup in Spain. The visitors surprised with a 1-1 draw and it is, to date, the best result obtained by the North Americans at home of the tricolor selection.

The next match at Azteca, was for the 1994 World Cup qualification in the United States. The Mexican team defeated the Canadians with a resounding 4-0. For the 1998 World Cup in France, the Tri repeated the score of ‘94. The goals were scored by Galindo, Zague and Hermosillo for the double game.

The match at Azteca was not repeated until 2016. Mexico beat Canada 2-0 with goals from Andrés Guardado and Tecatito Corona in the standings for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Mexico will face Canada on October 7 for the Qualifiers towards Qatar 2022. Then it will collide with Honduras on the 10th of the same month and will close the triple date by visiting El Salvador on the 13th.
