Gerardo Martino maintains his position with Carlos Vela and Javier Hernández in the Mexican National Team

The Mexican team's preparing to face a difficult summer in which it will have to face the Nations League, Gold Cup and even the Olympic Games, so having a wide deck of players was important. Gerardo Martino left Javier Hernández out of the last call for this year's tests, despite having one of the best scoring records of Mexican players in the world, however, he kept his idea of preferring other forwards than him.

"At this moment I had to define myself by a list of numbers nine that I believed were correct, from a list of 40. I have leaned towards others. I am not unaware of Javier's start in MLS and he is doing it in a great way, but is what we decide. It is normal that not all of us agree with several names. Regarding the number nine we define ourselves with the ones we have", said Tata Martino in an interview for Fox Sports.

Another name that he has always highlighted's Carlos Vela, who will not be considered for the senior team or for the Olympic Games.

"The truth's that no. Carlos Vela didn't speak with me and neither with Jaime or with Gerardo. Carlos' a person who respects the national team a lot and I doubt that he ever believed that he could go to the Olympics and not to the major. Carlos always told me his position with the national team, so it would be incongruous for us to call him, but that he did not want to be in the senior team and yes with another", said the Argentine coach of the Mexican National Team.
