FIFA has announced a date for an online summit to discuss new plans for global football with football associations. Part of what will be discussed at the summit are rescheduling of international calendars and also the plans to change the FIFA World Cup from four years to two years.

FIFA made public the plans to hold the global mundial every two years and it has faced opposition and criticisms from fans and football stakeholders who are of the opinion the competition is best as a two year format that it is.

Leading the opposition against the change is European football governing body UEFA and South America football governing body CONMEBOL, with UEFA citing "grave concerns" against the change.

FIFA last week said it conducted a poll for fans with the majority favouring the change of the frequency to two years. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said he wants everyone to participate in the plans to change it.

"FIFA is committed to being a forum for meaningful debate by engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including fans and looks forward to discussions on the sustainable growth of football in all regions of the world, at all levels." a statement by FIFA reads.
