The Argentine national team faces the possibility of docking 3 points and 3 goals when CONMEBOL and FIFA take their decision on what happened at the Corinthians Arena on Sunday. 3 of the 11 starting players for Argentina were alleged to have given false declarations to Brazilian health authorities over their travel movements.

Emiliano Martinez, Giovanni Lo Celso and Christian Romero are alleged to have withheld the information that they have been in the United Kingdom within the past 14 days. Travellers who have visited the United Kingdom within the past 14 days are required to quarantine for another 14 days before gaining entry into the country. The trio, alongside Emiliano Buendia and Sergio Romero are the England-based players that were called up by coach Lionel Scaloni.

World football governing body, FIFA has revealed that it is looking into the matter and would communicate its verdict soon. Reports from many quarters seem to blame the Argentine players for giving false declarations. Thus, many predict that the match would be forfeited to Brazil with 3 points and 3 goals awarded to the Selecao.

However, the Argentine team seem not to be bothered about the possibility of this because it would not adversely their qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Abiceleste has picked up 15 points so far from 7 games and sit second behind Brazil with 21 points. In a team of 10, the best 5 teams will go through to the next stage. The 6th team, Paraguay has just 8 points from 8 games. This means that 3 points lost would not mean so much to the Argentines.

Also, the Argentine team are on the up as they are confident after winning the Copa America. With World Cup qualification almost certain and being defending champions of South America, they would not care so much for the decision by FIFA. Lastly, Argentina would still be able to field the alleged players in their next group game against Bolivia. Without any suspensions to the players been announced yet, they are confident of fielding a strong team against Bolivia and possibly wrapping up qualification for the World Cup irrespective of FIFA's decision on suspended Brazil - Argentina match.
