The U.S. national team has had an amazing year. Manager Berhalter led the team to win the Nations League and Gold Cup in 2021 becoming the best Concacaf nation in the region. So far, in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers they are second with 6 games to go and the last match they played against Bosnia and Herzegovina broke the record for most games won in a single year, winning 17 games out of 22.

Gregg Berhalter spoke out clearly and sent a message for his players, "It's been a great year, I can't thank the players enough for everything they've given us as a team, but we have to prove it and make it happen in 2022."

At Christmas time and with some USMNT players about to return from injury, here are some of the gifts for Berhalter ahead of the January FIFA Matchday:

Giovanni Reyna, Borussia Dortmund offensive midfielder

Out of action since September 2, when he played against El Salvador in the Concacaf Octagonal. He has not been able to play in 7 of the 8 qualifying matches for Qatar 2022.

With Dortmund, he has missed 16 matches due to muscle injury and 5 due to the physical fitness period to return to optimal shape. His return is expected to take place in the Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund match on Saturday, January 8.

Sergiño Dest, FC Barcelona right-back

Recently out of action due to a muscle strain, the talented Ajax youth player has not seen action since December 12, when he was left on the bench against Osasuna.

After this, the win against Elche and the draw against Sevilla have been the other matches where his physical shape prevents him from seeing minutes. It is estimated that after the Christmas holidays, Dest will be back vs Mallorca on January 2, 2022.

Timothy Weah, Lille right-winger

He has been sidelined since a 2-1 win over Troyes in Ligue 1 due to a quadriceps muscle injury since December 4. He has been out of action for four games.

Timothy Weah was a key player for the USMNT during the November FIFA World Cup, thanks to his ability to lead the attack. Although there is no exact date for his return, it is expected to occur in the first two weeks of January.

Other Players to consider

A couple of players whose current form could help the USMNT are central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a recent Scottish League Cup winner, and Jordan Pefok, who just scored four goals with Young Boys.

The stars and stripes will face El Salvador for the next 2022 World Cup qualifier match. The USMNT will play on home turf at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. The match time will be 19:30 ET.
