Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose spoke about the situation of U.S. player Giovanni Reyna, who has not seen playing time since last September due to a muscle injury from which he is still recovering.

Although the 19-year-old was expected to be back for one of Dortmund's two matches prior to the January FIFA matchday, the German tactician acknowledged that Reyna's return to the field is likely to be in February.

Statement by Marco Rose

"Gio Reyna is generally on the right track, but of course, he has lost some rhythm during all this time because of the injury. We have to prepare him and get him fit to play again. Without wanting to promise anything about it, we will aim for the FIFA date after the game against Hoffenheim so that he can get fit and be back after the break," Marco Rose expressed in a press conference prior to the cup clash against ST. Pauli.

"He moves cleverly between the lines, but also pulls from the outside in, radiates a goal danger, and carries a shrewdness in himself. We want him back again." concluded the Dortmund coach.

Hope for Reyna

It is expected that, after the Bundesliga break due to the international activity of national teams, the American will be back on the field and will be able to play his first minutes against Bayer Leverkusen.

Although injury has kept Gio Reyna from exploiting his talent in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, during the three games he has played this season, the American is enjoying good numbers, with two goals and one assist, a fact that has Dortmund and USMNT fans excited about his return, because, with a fit Reyna, the German team and the USMNT can shore up their offense in a big way.
