This week the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers return to action with all participating teams having a mathematical chance of qualifying for Qatar 2022. The USMNT could secure its ticket to the World Cup in Qatar on this FIFA date.

The first series of matches is scheduled to be played on Thursday, January 27, and the last matches of the FIFA Date will be held on Wednesday, February 2. The CONCACAF qualifiers will resume on March 24 and will conclude on March 30.

With eight games played, Canada are at the top of the standings with 16 points, and below the Maple Leafs are the United States with 15 points.

What is the scenario for the USMNT heading to Qatar 2022?

With 15 points, the Stars and Stripes team can also increase their chances of qualifying for Qatar 2022 on this FIFA Date when they host El Salvador and Honduras at home. Gregg Berhalter's team must make the most of their next three games to pick up points as they face a difficult end to the qualifying campaign with Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica as their last three opponents.

Could the USMNT secure its place in Qatar 2022 on this FIFA date?

The USMNT aspires to finish the FIFA Date with 24 points, which would bring them closer to Qatar. The only way in which Greg Berhalter’s squad can book a ticket to the next World Cup is by winning the three matches and expecting that Panama and Mexico also lose their three games.

It looks complicated for that combination of results to come to fruition, however, the U.S. team should look for as many points as possible to close the last FIFA matchday in a more relaxed manner.
